Cold Weather Photography

Essential Tips for Cold Weather Photography

As the temperatures drop outside, especially in this Montana climate, it is important to go prepared for the cold when taking outdoor pictures - and that includes preparing your camera. We had talked about it a little in class earlier in the semester. I thought it might be a good idea to go ahead and refresh my memory, especially as it begins to snow outside (creating winter wonderland photo ops). The link above gives a better description of each and contains a LOT of great tips, mainly:

1. Keep your batteries warm by tucking them inside your coat - cold batteries die quickly.
2. Change White Balance to Cloudy on your camera if photos are too blue
3. Use an airtight plastic bag to help prevent condensation (more on this in the link)
4. Keep the camera under you coat to keep it as warm as possible
5. Take your SD card out, just in case of condensation
